Find out what’s going on this month in the our studio by reading below!

Also, we have classes next week (but not Thanksgiving Day)

Also, winter break is coming, Dec 22 - Jan 4th.

And please join our WhatsApp group.

Details below!

Technical Skills

Mat Chat & Mindfulness

Mini Ninjas (4-6yrs)

Q: How do you escape the Cowboy Mount?

A: Trap & Roll! This is comprised of the component skills: Trap the Arm, Plant Feet,  Build a Bridge,  and Snake Roll

We’re also doing a thorough review of how to use the guard, how to pass the guard, and how to maintain a dominant position, thru call & response alongside live demos and our popular skills game, Ship-to-Shore. Our new movement song is teaching how to skillfully handle pain. Our abbreviated warm-ups are keeping the kids more engaged and giving more time for live training

Meditation: Focus & Mindfulness Meditations, followed by a visualization exercise, thinking of and “seeing in the mind” something for which the kids feel love and gratitude. And then searching for the feelings of gratitude in the body as physical sensations.

Gratitude was the focus for mediations this month in honor of Thanksgiving, a time for giving thanks.

Mat Chat & Story: Our highlighted story this month, “Everything is energy,” teaches that we can cultivate good energy with our thoughts and share it with others through our actions.

Samurai Squad (6-12yrs)

"Jiu-Jitsu, literally the 'Gentle Art', is a quintessential example of how technique trumps brute force. It teaches practitioners to flow into new approaches when faced with resistance, a powerful lesson for both on and off the mat.

This month, we teach an alternative flow for opening an opponent’s Closed Guard, using the Mad Cat guard break. And then, from this very advantageous position, The Freshly Opened Guard, we show how the Cut Across Guard Pass works beautifully to establish top control.

Meditation: Same as for Mini Ninjas

Mat Chat & Story: Our highlighted story this month is about how Jake, the Warrior Kid in training, faces and overcomes a Plateau in his training. This leads into a talk about how, when engaged with deep and meaningful personal growth, we will experience both great highs and great lows, and that a Plateau can feel like a low, until we commit to smash through it!

Mindful Warriors (9-17yrs)

Our curriculum this month is largely the same as for Samurai Squad, above.

The primary difference with this age group is that our warm ups and drills are much more physically intense and demanding, and the level of detail and emphasis on subtle aspects of the technique, like distribution of weight, are discussed.

Meditation: Same as for Mini Ninjas & Samurai Squad

Mat Chat: Discussion about how advanced visualization meditations build on the foundational Focus and Mindfulness meditations.

We also describe the power of choosing where we place our attention and choosing to focus on what is Good. How we shape our world by what we focus on.

New WhatsApp Community!

Finally, a social media solution for our MiMA Ohana!
