Feb '26 Newsletter

Dear Mindful Martial Arts Families,

It’s been a little while since our last newsletter, and as we settle into the new year it felt like the right moment to reconnect. We’re feeling deeply grateful as we begin this season. To our longtime families, thank you for your trust and for growing alongside us. To our newer families, welcome. We’re glad you’re here and look forward to getting to know you and your children more as the year unfolds.

Friday Night Fun / Parents’ Night Off – February 13

It’s happening again! Our Friday Night Fun / Parents’ Night Off is a free / by donation community event sponsored by Maui Access to Mindful Movement (MAMM).

Kids will enjoy demonstrations, games, jiu-jitsu, food, music, and plenty of movement, while parents get a few hours of time and space to themselves.

Please reserve your spot so we have a sense of how much pizza and healthy snacks to prepare.

📅 Friday, February 13, 2026🕠 5:30 pm–8:30 pm📍 Wisdom Flow Studio, 95 Makawao Ave, Makawao💖 By donation (pay-what-you-can), with proceeds supporting scholarships for local families.

This is a great night for your keiki to make friends and enjoy movement, while you enjoy a bit of time to yourself. We look forward to seeing many of you there.

A Transition: Honoring Professor Rob

Professor Rob will no longer be coaching classes at Mindful Martial Arts.

Rob has played an important role in the growth of our program. His experience, technical knowledge, and dedication to martial arts have contributed meaningfully to our community. We’re grateful for the expertise and care he brought to the mat, and we wish him well in his next chapter.

A New Offering: Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP)

We’re excited to share that Mindful Martial Arts Program Advisor Rebekah Harbour has recently become certified to offer the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP).

Rebekah is a licensed massage therapist and a certified Zero Balancing practitioner and teacher. She has also been a longtime advisor to Mindful Martial Arts.

SSP is a listening-based program developed by Dr. Stephen Porges, creator of Polyvagal Theory. It’s designed to support nervous system regulation, particularly the systems involved in feeling safe, socially connected, and regulated.

In simple terms, SSP uses specially filtered music to help the nervous system shift out of chronic stress or shutdown and into a state that supports:

  • emotional regulation

  • social engagement and connection

  • resilience to stress

  • greater ease in the body

We’ll be sharing more about SSP in the coming weeks, including who it may be a good fit for and how families can learn more.

Thank you for being part of Mindful Martial Arts. We look forward to continuing to support your children’s growth, on and off the mat, as we move through the year together.

Aloha,

Coach Gabe & Team
