1. Enjoy your Spring Break!
FYI! We will be closed for the week of March 17th - 22nd. We hope everyone has a fun and relaxing Spring Break! Does anybody have any plans for the week? Share what you are up to on our Whatsapp group!

2. Housing for Coach Morgan!
Morgan experienced some unexpected mold issues at her former residence in Haiku and had to move out in a hurry to protect her health.
If you’ve got a spare room and a little space in your fridge for her, I (and she) would greatly appreciate your hospitality. While she’s looking for housing through May, even if you can provide space for just a week, that would be a huge help. Where she’s staying now, she’s not able to access the kitchen which is making her eat out all her meals, which is not ideal.
Please message Coach Gabe directly on his personal line if you have any space or know someone who does.
Note that she is very willing to pay or do household or yard-work in exchange for your support.
Thank you!

3. Persistent Cougher
We are committed to your child’s safety and health and are committed to making sure colds and flus don’t get transferred within our studio’s walls.
I have had lengthy conversations with the mom of one of our students about his coughing condition. He has been to the doctors several times about this, had X-Rays of his lungs done, been prescribed antibiotics, and ultimately been told that he is not sick and not contagious. Still, we are having him wear a mask, as no one wants to be coughed on. If you have a concern about any student’s health/sickness or any sort of behavior, please let Coach Gabe know right away.

4. Let us know your Summer Plans!
Speaking of Spring Break got us wondering what are your summer plans?? Summer is the time to travel and we typically notice a drop in students during those months so we would like to get a feel for how many of you are thinking about pausing our membership around that time.
If you already know your plans, please fill out our Membership Pause Form to get the process rolling. If you do not know your plans yet, no worries! You have some time to let us know. Please review our Absence/Pause in Membership policy to know when you need to inform us by. Thank you in advance!

5. Check out our Instagram Page! And help our community grow!

Our goal is to add positive content that uplifts and motivates others.
If you have any videos or photos you’d like us to share that would be a positive impact to the community please become our friend and message us there or else just post them to our WhatsApp group (which you’ve joined already, right!?). Thanks!

6. Another successful Friday Night Fun!!
Thank you to all the students and parents who made Friday Night Fun another success! The kids had so much fun bonding outside class and it sure makes a difference on the mat.
Our next event “Saturday Night Social” will be held either on 4/12 or 5/3 and will be in collaboration with some great pre-school teachers from Mele’aina School hosting tea and gymboree upstairs, so will serve ages 3 and up. Watch this space!

7. Curriculum: What’s your child learning?
MINI NINJAS (ages 4-6)
This month, the minis are getting a strong does of Verbal Jiu-Jitsu, learning the importance of starting soft and ending firm with their verbal boundary setting, and also understanding exactly how to transition into physical responses.
Our focus this month is on the very real threat of having one’s clothes grabbed, and how to escape it effectively
SAMURAI SQUAD (ages 6-9)
Theory focusing on how to move from strength to strength to strength AND also about wanting to take away space when attacking and creating space when defending – principles which apply to daily life as well. Physical techniques focusing on learning how to hold a strong standard Side Control and move from there to a solid Reverse Scarf-Hold and then finally to Mount.
WARRIORS (ages 9-17)
Drills continue to focus on Triangle Chokes and movement front the sprawl condition. Techniques starting to focus on scissor sweeps. Lots of focus on exacting details.
MEDITATIONS:
This month, across all age groups, we are practicing a standing eyes-open focus exercise from the “Attention” position and combining it with discussion of the importance of developing one’s focus and one’s ability to not react or allow one’s attention to be diverted from anything (excepting immediate physical threat to one’s safety) — a crucial tool for achieving one’s goals in life.
