Focus, discipline, and confidence are developed simultaneously within our high-quality martial arts training programs. Students learn to defend themselves by learning Jiu-Jitsu, one the most effective martial arts in the world, by learning to set verbal boundaries, and by being encouraged to prevent, diffuse, and walk away from conflict as much as possible.
Our Jiu-Jitsu classes combine the best of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with character-development and mindfulness practices more common in other martial arts. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is known far and wide for its undeniable effectiveness in real-life fight situations, and as being arguably the most effective martial art in any pure style-vs-style competition. However, in order to achieve this high level of combat effectiveness, certain areas of personal growth support have been neglected.
Our approach restores interest in developing pro-social attitudes and mindfulness skills among our students. This is reflected through our class structure.

Students learn situational awareness, social-emotional skills, and verbal self-defense to prevent fights. And they learn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu techniques to safely end them. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has proven itself on the world stage as a superior martial art for realistic fight situations.
The basic strategy is to respond to a physical attack by taking it to the ground and then controlling the situation with superior technique. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, literally "the gentle art", is unique in that it allows a smaller, weaker person to use leverage, holds, and submissions, to defend themselves against a larger opponent while using a scalable amount of force. Students also practice some strikes (punches and kicks) and strike-defense, but the emphasis is placed on grappling / technical-wrestling.
The only way to build skills that will be effective in a real-life situation is by training them under pressure, or what we call "Live Training." Through live training, students experience attempting to use their techniques against an intelligent resisting opponent, forcing them to adapt and refine their technique in a way that no other form of training can replicate.
Mindfulness practices include breathing exercises, meditation, visualization, intention setting and more. By training their minds in this way, students gain practice calming their own body-mind systems and directing their attention. These are essential skills, especially for people who are learning powerful and potentially dangerous fighting techniques.
Teaching Stories use the power of narrative and to highlight and elevate pro-social values like honesty, integrity, curiosity, responsibility, respect, discipline, emotional-regulation and more. Stories include fables, legends, rhyming books, short novels, and more as appropriate for each audience.
